A Long, Long Time Ago

Kodak 110 Camera - My Very First
Once upon a time in the city of Elkhart, Indiana there lived a boy with a camera. That camera was very special to the boy it was a Kodak 110 film camera; it had two functions – Normal and Zoom! I remember that this camera was one of those that I took everywhere – solidifying my interest in photography getting me to where I am today with Holmes Photography. I remember that I took pictures of animals, family, friends, cars, trucks, and more – This camera was used everywhere! I think I even used this camera for my media medal (not sure what it is called now) from the Cub Scouts for my Webelos Badge, and eventually Arrow of Light Medal/Badge. This camera pushed my life into a direction of many unknown cameras and other point-and-shoots, until my first shot with an old camera that Elkhart Central High School had in their repertoire – Nikon N series – I cannot remember the actual model! I wish I still had the photos that I took with them! Once I was involved in photography in High School I was hooked! The sky was the limit and the photos were at my will!
As I write this blog, my wife Sarah, and I discussed an irony that was kinda neat and coincidental – her first camera was also the Kodak 110! I imagine that this camera was a lot of cameraman’s first

Nikon N55
camera. Moving along into digital media – I moved into Webdesign and was amazed to see how computer graphics, coding, and photography go hand in hand. Still I couldn’t afford college and so I went to the United States Army and honed my skills as a photographer with a camera that I blew a paycheck on a Nikon N55 with a 50mm lens (this camera is also known as the Nikon f55). Finally moving on into the rest of the world as a civilian I took many photos then went to college for a few reasons – to get a degree! I have taken a multitude of art classes and theoretical art history classes, and learn many lessons in photography and composition from classes and also from colleagues. Now I use multiple Nikon cameras and am able to take multiple pictures and not have to wait to show off the end product of the camera and my designs!
Fitness
How does fitness go along into a blog seemingly about my humble beginnings? Well, photography for me is a lot like fitness is to body builders, and our service members that do physical training everyday. Myself, being apart of both groups, means a lot to me to be able to process both bits of information. And I have had the distinct honor to be able to work with some pretty big names in the sport of body building and some future up and comers. My team leader when I was overseas, Timmie, introduced me to a very nice and generous man in the body building community – Mr. Dan Decker. He is one of those guys that people just love to be around because he is an overall nice guy! And he has given me a start in fitness photography – him and Mr. Mark Samson. Together I shot one of their workouts of them getting ready for body building tournaments. And they turned out great, in my opinion! Leading me to an up and comer Ms. Ashley Shutz (Johns). I actually went to high school with Ashley and we graduated together, but in the last two years she has transformed herself into an elite fitness force! She was/is a spokesperson for BodyBuilding.com. She has turned herself into being a content regular person like most of us and turned herself into a competing bodybuilding athlete! We had a very great shoot! She was very accommodating and was very cheery to try new shots that she hasn’t done before! And she harnessed my ability to try to step out of the box and do some shots that were a little out of my comfort zone! It was very fun!
Ashley’s shots turned out great and I think she has a great and bright future in front of her as a bodybuilder and fitness guru for the sport! Ashley has been very busy lately and is becoming quite known in the field. You can follow her more through her blog site: http://www.fierceforward.com.
I hope you all enjoy her pictures!!
My Family
Since it has been a while since my last post, Holmes Photography has been getting a lot of webdesign jobs! Lately we have been working very diligently at getting some websites done and then getting pictures of my little boy! He is such the ham!! And Sarah and I love him more than anything in this whole wide world!!! He is our “Bubbie”!
Honestly, though, isn’t he the most adorable thing that you ever did see? He poses really well too!
Well that is all for now I hope that you all have a great week and I will definitely try to update this more often!! Take it easy!!
